MeECL lineman electrocuted in tragic accident

Tura, Sep 15: Tragedy struck a Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) lineman who was repairing the main power line to the Tura region today after he accidentally touched a live wire while repairing the connection and fell from the tower.
The shock of touching the wire led to Lathinson G Momin falling from quite a height following which he succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Williamnagar Civil Hospital in East Garo Hills.
The 59-year-old was just one year away from retirement and was a resident of Thapa Darenchi in North Garo Hills.
The incident took place today afternoon at about 1:30pm when Momin, along with a few colleagues, were working on restoring the line to Tura after it developed a snag.
According to those who were there on the spot, Momin fell when he touched a line whose earthing was not fully disconnected. He was still alive despite the shock and the fall from the tower and was immediately rushed to Nangalbibra Community Health Centre for treatment from where he was whisked away to Williamnagar.
However, Momin succumbed to his injuries en route.
The accident has also led to the delay in the restoration of the line to Tura and other areas.
