New ambulances inducted in Ri-Bhoi

Nongpoh, Sep 14: Nine ambulances and four ‘supervisory’ vehicles were officially inducted in Ri-Bhoi here today to serve the people of the district.
The vehicles were purchased using financial assistance provided by NITI Aayog, at a cost of Rs 3 crore, meant for ‘aspirational districts’, of which Ri-Bhoi is one of 117 spread across 28 states.
NITI Aayog aims to improve the socio-economic status of those listed in the Transformation of Aspirational Districts Programme.
The vehicles were released today in an official function held at the Circuit House, Nongpoh.
Ri-Bhoi MLAs Mayral Born Syiem, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, Sosthenes Sohtun, George B Lyngdoh and MDCs Victor Rani and Balajied Rani attended the function.
Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah said that the vehicles will help cater to the needs of the local people, including in the fight against Covid-19.
