Double whammy for James as car crashes on return from Imphal

HP NEWS SERVICE
Shillong, Sep 13: There was no let-up in unfortunate events for Meghalaya minister James Sangma, who, hours after testing positive for Covid-19 while in Imphal, was involved in a car crash in Nagaon, Assam while on his way back to Shillong.
Sangma tested positive at Imphal airport yesterday. He had travelled to Manipur from New Delhi for a National People’s Party (NPP) function. After testing positive it was decided that he would return to Meghalaya by car.
However, his convoy was involved in an accident just before 5am today, with the pilot vehicle (ML 02 5522) overturning – injuring four policemen inside – and a black SUV (with no licence plates) hurtling off the road into what looked, from photographs, like a paddy field.
Inspector General of Police GK Iangrai informed through a press release today that the four injured policemen were taken to Nagaon Civil Hospital for treatment. Sangma, meanwhile, was “escorted to his official residence in Shillong.” There was no word on any injuries suffered by the minister.
Both vehicles involved in the accident were taken to Nonoi police outpost for “observation of legal procedures” and Meghalaya police are coordinating with their Assam counterparts, Iangrai said.
