Meghalaya hits another century of new Covid-19 infections

Shillong, Sep 3: After a relative lull of a few days, Meghalaya recorded 109 new cases of Covid-19 today and 75 recoveries, which took the active cases total to 1,220.
East Khasi Hills reported 78 new cases – 68 civilians and 10 among the armed forces/paramilitaries – but this did not include 13 random samples (out of 79 taken) from Khyndailad that came back positive later in the day. These will be counted in tomorrow’s figures.
West Garo Hills reported 15 new infections (eight jawans, seven civilians) and Ri-Bhoi 13. There were also two new cases in South Garo Hills and one in West Jaiñtia Hills.
Director of Health Services Dr Aman War also informed that there are 69 Covid-19 patients who have been admitted to various hospitals in Meghalaya – 25 in Shillong Civil Hospital, 16 in RP Chest Hospital, 10 in NEIGRIHMS, nine in Tura Civil Hospital, six in Resubelpara and three in Ampati.
Among the civilian cases, 63 in East Khasi Hills are high-risk contacts, two have influenza like illnesses (ILI), one has a severe acute respiratory infection and two are health workers. In Ri-Bhoi six are returnees, six are high-risk contacts and one has an ILI. In West Garo Hills six are high-risk contacts while one is a returnee, while all the cases in West Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills were found among drivers.
Of the recoveries, East Khasi Hills reported 58 (38 jawans, 20 civilians), West Garo Hills 12 (11 jawans, one civilian), North Garo Hills four and West Khasi Hills one.
The district wise breakup of active cases is East Khasi Hills 833 (173 jawans, 660 civilians), West Garo Hills 121 (75 jawans, 46 civilians), Ri-Bhoi 84 (eight jawans, 76 civilians), East Garo Hills 83, West Khasi Hills 44, East Jaiñtia Hills 23, South Garo Hills 21 (11 jawans, 10 civilians), North Garo Hills five, South West Garo Hills three and West Jaiñtia Hills 3.
The number of samples sent for testing until Thursday afternoon is 93,817, out of which 90,516 were negative and the reports of 675 are awaited.
The number of citizens from outside Meghalaya who have entered the state up to Thursday afternoon is 33,009.
