East Garo Hills witnesses surge in Covid cases

Shillong, Aug 27: Meghalaya recorded 75 fresh cases of Covid-19 cases today, health authorities informed.
Director of Health Services Dr. Aman War informed that East Khasi Hills recorded the maximum, with 29 new infections, but East Garo Hills was not too far behind with 27 new coronavirus cases, taking the district’s active tally to 39 from next to nothing only a few days ago.
West Garo Hills (15 – 11 jawans, four civilians), South West Garo Hills (two), North Garo Hills (one) and South Garo Hills (one) were the other districts which reported new cases. The number of active cases in the state now stands at 1,222 after 25 recoveries were reported today.
In East Khasi Hills all 29 new cases were among civilians, of which 25 are high-risk contacts and four have influenza like illnesses (ILI). All 27 cases in East Garo Hills were discovered during random sampling in Rongjeng and Songsak.
In West Garo Hills the four recorded as positive were three during random testing at Phulbari and one a returnee. In South West Garo Hills the two cases recorded positive were during random testing at Mahendraganj, while in North Garo Hills the one case was recorded during random testing at Resubelpara.
Dr. War also said that during random testing in Shillong, one positive case was recorded in Khyndailand and two others in Anjalee.
The district wise breakup of the cases are – East Khasi Hills 847 (armed and paramilitary forces 283 and others 564), West Garo Hills 187 (armed and paramilitary forces 114 and others 73), Ri-Bhoi 68 (armed and paramilitary forces six and others 62), West Khasi Hills 43, East Garo Hills 39, East Jaintia Hills 12, South Garo Hills 11 (all armed and paramilitary forces), North Garo Hills 10, South West Garo Hills three and West Jaintia Hills two.
The State also recorded 25 new recoveries: Ri-Bhoi 10 (one from the armed and paramilitary forces and others nine), East Khasi Hills four (all from the armed and paramilitary forces), North Garo Hills four, West Garo Hils four (three armed and paramilitary forces and others one), South Garo Hills two and West Jaintia Hills one.
The samples sent for testing till today afternoon are 81,012, which yielded 78,431 negative results, while 452 results are pending.
Meanwhile, the total number of citizens who have entered the state from within the country and abroad are 31,425.
