5 Nazareth Hospital nurses test positive for Covid

Shillong, Aug 24: Meghalaya recorded another 59 new cases of Covid-19 today, of which five are nurses at Nazareth Hospital in Shillong.
One patient at the same hospital also tested positive as Shillong and the rest of East Khasi Hills accounted for 55 of all the new cases of coronavirus in the state today.
Meanwhile, recoveries went up by 13, with nine in East Khasi Hills, two in East Jaiñtia Hills and one each in West Khasi Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 1,179 active cases in the state, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said.
In East Khasi Hills, 46 new infections were among civilians and nine among members of the armed forces and paramilitaries. Ri-Bhoi accounted for the other four cases, split evenly between civilians and jawans (two each).
Besides the aforementioned Nazareth Hospital cases, East Khasi Hills saw 29 high-risk individuals test positive, along with one low-risk person, one contact of a positive person and one returnee. In random testing, two from Motphran, three from Anjalee and two from Khyndailad tested positive for the virus.
As of today East Khasi Hills has 769 active cases. West Garo Hills has 223, Ri-Bhoi 98, West Khasi Hills 43, East Jaiñtia Hills 12, North Garo Hills 12, South Garo Hills 12, South West Garo Hills four, East Garo Hills three, West Jaiñtia Hills two and South West Khasi Hills one.
Hek also informed that a total of 75,239 samples have been sent for testing out of which 72,824 yielded negative results and the reports of 439 samples are awaited.
A total of 30,470 citizens have entered the state till Monday afternoon.
