Active Covid cases cross 1,000 mark in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 22: Another Covid-19 patient died in the State on Saturday, taking the number of fatalities to seven.
Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War informed that a 58-year-old man Ram Bashan Rai from Jhalupara Cantonment Shillong died of COVID-19 late Friday night at the Shillong Civil Hospital.
According to Dr. War the patient died at around 10:45 pm.
He said the patient was diagnosed with SARI and was referred from the private-run Woodland Hospital to Civil Hospital, Shillong.
“The 58-year-old male the cause of death was acute respiratory disorder syndrome caused due to COVID-19 and he also had underlying ailments, including diabetes and hypertension,” Dr. War said.

Shillong, Aug 22: The total number of Covid-19 active cases in the State has crossed the 1000 mark on Saturday.
The State which recorded 93 fresh cases saw the tally of active ones rising to 1035.
Out of the 93 fresh cases, East Khasi Hills recorded the maximum with 66 – armed-paramilitary forces – 21 and others – 45, West Garo Hils – nine case – armed – paramilitary forces – four, others – five, Ri-Bhoi – two, West Khasi Hills – 10, North Garo Hills – two and East Jaiñtia Hills – four.
Dr. War also informed that of the 66 fresh cases in East Khasi Hills, armed – paramilitary forces accounts for 21 and others 45 – 10 tested positive during random testing at Khlieh Ïewduh, nine tested positive during random testing at Motphran, nine tested positive during random testing at Anjalee, one tested positive during random testing at Khyndailad, three are returnees, nine are high risk contacts of positive persons, two are influenza like illnesses who reported to hospitals, one is a patient at Nazareth Hospital and one works at Polo collection center.
The district wise breakup of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills – 662 (others 419 armed forces-paramilitary 243), West Garo Hills – 215, Ri Bhoi – 93, West Khasi Hills – 28, East Jaiñtia Hills – 12, North Garo Hills – 12, West Jaiñtia Hills – three, South West Garo Hills – four, East Garo Hills – three, South Garo Hills – two and South West Khasi Hills – one.
The State also recorded 20 new recoveries, West Garo Hills 15 (armed forces – paramilitary forces – 12, others – three), Ri-Bhoi – one, East Jaiñtia Hills – one and East Khasi Hills – three (others – two and armed forces – paramilitary forces – one).
The samples sent for testing till Saturday afternoon are 72, 409, the samples which tested negative are 70, 019 and reports of 579 samples are awaited.
Dr. War also informed that till date a total of 23, 221 citizens were tested through random sampling out of which 397 tested positive.
The Director of Health Services giving the break up informed that – in East Jaiñtia Hills 1266 samples were taken and three tested positive, in West Garo Hills 3295 samples were taken and 124 tested positive, East Garo Hills 593 samples were taken, three tested positive, West Jaiñtia Hills all the 908 samples tested negative, in West Khasi Hills out of the 506 samples, a total of 27 tested positive, Ri-Bhoi out of the 2150 samples, 23 tested positive, South West Garo Hills all the 630 samples tested negative, in East Khasi Hills of the 12083 samples tested a total of 203 tested positive, in South Garo Hills of the 567 samples two tested positive, South West Khasi Hills all the 198 samples tested negative and in North Garo Hills of the 1028 samples tested, 12 tested positive.
Meanwhile, the total number of citizens who have entered the State from within the country and outside till Saturday afternoon are 30,005.
