Shillong, Aug 10: South West Khasi Hills which so far has not recorded any Covid-19 case has today joined the list of districts in the State hit by the virus.
According to official sources, a positive case was recorded today in the district.
The person who tested positive of Covid-19 is a returnee from Gujarat.
He reached South West Khasi Hills on August 5 through the Byrnihat checkpoint after completing all protocols of the Health Department.
Thereafter, he proceeded for home quarantine to his village in the district.
On August 7, the man developed mild symptoms and was immediately shifted to the corona care centre at Mawkyrwat.
On August 8, his sample was taken for RT-PCR test and his report came out as Covid-19 positive today.
His present condition is stable and is under close observation at the corona care centre, sources said.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya has recorded 53 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the State’s count to 1,114 even as 610 are active cases.
Today, a majority of the cases, 39, were recorded from West Garo Hills district with 29 from the Border Security Force (BSF) cluster. Ten civilians were also infected by the virus.
East Khasi Hills recorded 12 cases, out of which one is from the armed forces and 11 civilians.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that in East Khasi Hills, out of the 11 cases among civilians, one is an attendant of a patient at Shillong Civil Hospital, another is also an attendant of a patient at NEIGRIHMS, two are staff nurses at NEIGRIHMS, one is a tourist taxi driver, four are returnees and two are high risk contacts of positive cases.
In Ri-Bhoi district, the single civilian case recorded today is that of a patient who visited the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
In West Garo Hills, of the ten civilians cases, nine are returnees and one is a contact of a positive case from North Garo Hills.
Dr. War also informed that the State now has 611 active cases out of which 428 are in East Khasi Hills (BSF 91, civilians 268 and armed forces 69).
The other districts include Ri-Bhoi (85), West Garo Hills( 65), West Jaintia Hills (15), West Khasi Hills (6), East Jaintia Hills (6), South West Garo Hills (2), South Garo Hills (2) and North Garo Hills (2).
Dr. War also informed that the State recorded eight recoveries today. These include three from East Khasi Hills who are all civilians and five from West Garo Hills who include one BSF and four civilians.
The total recovered cases in the State till date stands at 498.
The number of samples sent for testing till today afternoon is 41,734 out of which 39,785 turned out to be negative. The results of 834 samples are awaited. A total of 26,766 citizens have entered Meghalaya till today afternoon.
