Seven health workers among 17 test positive for Covid

Shillong, Aug 8: Seven health workers of R. P. Chest Hospital have tested for Covid-19 on Saturday, the State’s Health department informed.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that authorities will investigate how these health workers got infected with the virus. He said that these workers were on duty at the Covid-19 section and contact tracing is on.
Dr. War also informed that with the new cases the total number of positive persons in the hospital has gone up to 10 even as he informed that in East Khasi Hills alone 34 health workers have tested positive for Covid-19.
During his daily briefing, Dr. War informed that the State recorded 17 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the total number of active cases to 594.
Of the 17 fresh cases East Khasi Hills recorded 12 which include five civilians from different localities of Shillong and seven are health workers.
North Garo Hills recorded two new cases one is a newly recruited health worker and another is a returnee from Assam, while in West Garo Hills all the three positive cases are Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.
Meanwhile, the State also recorded 12 recoveries on Saturday taking the total to 423.
Dr. War informed that of the 12 recoveries, four are from East Khasi Hills (one BSF personnel and three civilians), seven are from Ri-Bhoi and one from West Jaiñtia Hills.
The district wise break up of positive cases are – East Khasi Hills 453 which includes 142 BSF personnel, 245 civilians and 66 are from the armed forces, West Khasi Hills six, Ri-Bhoi 65, West Jaiñtia Hills 15, East Jaiñtia Hills 18, West Garo Hills 31, South West Garo Hills two, South Garo Hills two and North Garo Hills two.
The number of samples sent for testing till date are 40700, a total of 39294 cases yielded negative results and the report of 383 samples are awaited.
Moreover a total of 26286 citizens have entered the State till Saturday afternoon.
