Shillong July 31: A doctor from Bethany Hospital Shillong and one staff members of TB Hospital Shillong were among 20 new Covid-19 positive cases reported in Meghalaya on Friday.
The doctor from Bethany is the second who tested positive after the founder of the hospital and well known physician, (L) Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang who succumbed to the virus on April 15, after he tested positive on April 13.
Besides the doctor, two cases with severe acute respiratory infection from Bethany Hospital, one staff of RP Chest Hospital, one from NEIGRIHMS, one BSF personnel, and 12 other armed forces also tested positive.
Till date the State has five nurses from NEIGRIHMS who tested positive, and as per the government, four are doctors from the State and one died and three nurses are positive.
South West Garo Hills district also confirmed one positive case who is a returnee from Mangalore.
There are 603 active positive cases, which comprises 503 cases in East Khasi Hills district which include 253 BSF, 46 other armed forces, and 207 others.
West Khasi Hills district and South West Garo Hills have four cases each, Ri Bhoi district 43, West Jaiñtia Hills 14, East Jaiñtia Hills and West Garo Hills 15 each, and two in South Garo Hills district.
Five patients have also recovered today – four from East Khasi Hills and one from Ri Bhoi. The recovered patients include 2 BSF and three others. The number of recovered persons so far is 215.
As many as 36,859 samples were sent for testing, out of which, 35,569 tested negative and 467 test results are awaiting.
Meanwhile 24,198 residents of the State have returned home from places outside Meghalaya so far.
