Nongstoiñ, Jul 31: The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded that the Health department begins ‘public random testing’ of the residents of Nongstoiñ and its periphery.
The HYC has also demanded that the public random testing should also be done on people who visit Nongstoiñ.
The decision to raise this demand comes in the wake of a number of people from Nongstoiñ testing positive for Covid-19. Expressing its concern over the probable spread of the virus in the area, the HYC opined that conducting such a public random testing will help in identifying those who have been infected by the virus, if any.
“Yes it is important to follow the guidelines and advisories issued by the government but now it is the turn of the government to conduct testing on the people so that society at large is not affected,” the HYC said today.
It also said that the public random testing will help provide clarity on the overall situation in Nongstoiñ and its adjoining areas in regard to Covid-19. It also pointed out that if Covid-19 spreads out of Nongstoiñ, this will undoubtedly affect the whole West Khasi Hills district.
