‘False positive’ Covid-19 elderly man dies of asthma

Nongpoh, Jun 27: A septuagenarian who was declared ‘false positive’ of Covid-19 passed away on Friday.
Eighty-one-year old Phling Sohpoh of Umsamlem village had requested doctors of the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong to discharge him on June 22.
His son, Sikhaius Mawlong informed that four days after reaching home he passed away of asthma. His funeral service was held on Saturday.
Mawlong also extended the family’s gratitude to the State government for paying all the medical charges and thanked the doctors of the hospital for taking care of his father.
Sohphoh was declared a Covid-19 positive patient on June 9 after his samples tested positive for the infection in an RT-PCR test. However, after over a week, tests conducted returned negative for Covid-19. On June 16, the health department declared the patient as ‘false positive’ of Covid-19.
The government and the hospital then faced the ire of the Umsamlem Dorbar Shnong stating that the government had sent the village and its adjoining areas under panic as it was at that time declared a containment zone. They criticized the government stating that it took a hasty decision of declaring their resident positive of Covid-19.
Health Minister AL Hek and Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr and other officials including the hospital authorities had to visit the village and were able to clear all the misunderstandings on the case.
