Lokayukta seeks probe into MDC scheme implementation

Tura, Jun 27: The Meghalaya Lokayukta has asked for a probe into allegations of fund misuse in development work meant for the Williamnagar GHADC constituency, with the DGP of Meghalaya being asked to lead the probe.
The allegations relate to a case filed by social activist Nilbath Ch Marak against the former CEM of GHADC Denang Sangma.
An amount of Rs 3.35 crore out of Rs 100.71 was sanctioned for the development of Williamnagar under various heads under the Centre’s Special Assistance during the year 2015-2016. Further another amount of Rs 1 crore was sanctioned under the same scheme in 2018-2019.
While most of the projects have not been completed some projects have not been executed as per RTI avail by the activist.
A case had been registered with the Lokayukta some time ago by Marak leading to the Lokayukta chairman PK Musahary, this Tuesday, asking for the DGP to initiate an initial inquiry. The report for the same has been asked to be submitted within four weeks.
Further a notice has been issued to the current GHADC chairman, Denang T Sangma, the secretary along with 15 more contractors whose names appear on the contractor list of projects for the constituency.
Further an order has been issued to the Chief Secretary, finance to stop any further payments against any pending bills on the same schemes.
