HC stops lifting of auctioned coal

Shillong, Jan 15: The Meghalaya High Court has ordered a stop to lifting and transportation of some auctioned coal following a case filed in the court.
The order was passed by Justice Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew on a writ petition filed by a coal trading company, Pahal Coal Traders Private Limited.
While taking up the writ petition, Justice Thangkhiew directed that the case be listed again for further hearing on January 30.
“Till the next date, no further lifting and transportation of the auctioned coal shall be allowed. The Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police shall ensure strict compliance of this order,” the High Court said.
Copy of the order was also supplied to Additional Advocate General N D Chullai for communication to the government and concerned authorities.
It may be mentioned that coal seized by police are offloaded from trucks and auctioned under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of a dictrict.
