AMMSU seeks action against school

HP NEWS SERVICE
Tura, Jan 13: The All Meghalaya Minorities Students’ Union (AMMSU) has written to the deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills over the Bhaitbari HS School in the plain belt charging Rs 50 for a photocopied form without even giving a receipt for the same.
In a letter to the DC and the SDSEO, AMMSU has sought stringent action to be taken against the principal as well as the managing committee members for what they termed to be an illegal act.
“The school management is issuing forms, which take about Rs 3 to print at Rs 50 for admission to Class VI and Class IX. Our part of the state is economically poor and such costs are making things worse for them. Now due to the heavy charges, many students have not been able to take the forms due to the paucity of funds,” said Nur Islam, the AMMSU president.
According to AMMSU, all other schools, including private and ad hoc schools of their area were supplying the form free of cost.
The union further asked the DC to intervene into the matter and take appropriate action against those responsible for the illegal act.
