3 arrested in Assam over moral policing case

Tura, Dec 3: Three persons have been arrested by Assam police personnel in the case of moral policing of a Garo Hills based minor girl.
The incident, which apparently took place in the village of Hariguripara under Krishnai Police station, allegedly took place a few days ago.
In the shocking incident, the minor girl and her friend had gone to the village when they were accosted by a group of miscreants who not only beat up the girl and the boy but also outraged the modesty of the girl.
The girl, who is currently under the care of the CWC, had suffered mental trauma apart from the physical beatings she received.
“We have been informed that three persons have been arrested in the case from the Krishnai Police Station. I am also in constant touch with the DSP of Goalpara district on the matter,” said DSP Ravi Sangma, who along with policemen reached the Police Station to lodge a case on the matter, yesterday.
According to information received, the parents of the girl had gone to the Krishnai Police Station the previous day to the video going viral. However as there was not much physical damage done, they decided not to lodge a case.
It was only after the video of the incident went viral that the parents understood the extent of the damage their child had gone through. A new case on the matter was then filed on the incident at Krishnai, leading to the arrest of the three persons.
“The matter is currently under investigation and there may be another one or two more persons involved in the matter,” added the DSP.
Meanwhile rumours have been rife that the miscreants actually made the video viral on social media as they demanded money from the victims which the girl and boy were unable to pay. However for now investigations have played down the rumours of the demand saying nothing of the sort had been stated in the FIR.
