Demand for scrapping of MoU on Mawkyrwat market complex

Mawkyrwat, Nov 17: The Sankur Ri Kynti Khaiñ Nonglang & Mawkyrwat Hat has demanded that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) scraps a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has been signed for the construction of the Mawkyrwat market complex.
This demand has been raised after three years of inactivity ever since the foundation stone of this project was laid by the then Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC, Pynshngain N. Syiem on November 18, 2016.
Concerned by the fact that no work has been started on this project till date, the Manager of Sankur Ri Kynti Khaiñ Nonglang & Mawkyrwat Hat, L Shangdiar had sought information on the project which revealed that Rs. 2 crores had earlier been allocated for the project.
“It was surprising to learn that this fund was later withdrawn, for reasons best known to the authorities concerned,” Shangdiar said today.
Shangdiar also said that if the fund is no longer available, it would be better if the MoU that was signed in this regard is scrapped.
Those who are presently conducting business at Mawkyrwat meanwhile have questioned why this fund has been withdrawn. “Who has withdrawn it and where has this amount of Rs. 2 crores been redirected to?” they quipped.
