Mawkyrwat, Nov 7: The president of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) South West Khasi Hills district, Arbok K. Jahrin has reiterated the NGO’s opposition against the two-lane road project from Nongstoiñ through Mawthabah to Ranikor.
“The HYC will not allow the government to start any project that has a bearing on designs to mine uranium in the district as we all know that such activities will lead to untold death in the entire area,” Jahrin said today.
In this backdrop, Jahrin said that the HYC will stand with the people of the area and continue opposing work on this road project without a specific assurance that this will not be linked with the issue of the uranium deposits in the area.
Meanwhile, the HYC has also started its new Warsanlyngdoh Area Unit on the same day which comprised of Robertsing Myrthong as president, Phlashai K. Bani as vice president, Phaiborlin Marshra as general secretary among others.
Eighteen new members of the HYC were also welcomed on the day.
