Overworked BDO struggles to cope

HP NEWS SERVICE
Jowai, Nov 7: The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Wapung Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block, S Marwein has expressed the immense hardship that he is facing after being tasked with looking after two separate blocks.
Marwein had expressed this difficulty to a delegation of the Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF) who had called on him today after complaints from the residents of Wapung Block who struggled to meet the BDO and block officials at Khliehriat.
“The BDO has informed us that as of now, he is charged with looking after Wapung C&RD block and also the Saipung C&RD block and that this is proving to be a difficult task for him,” MPUF Khliehriat circle president, Kyrshan Blah said today.
He also said that the BDO has told the delegation that he has to look after three or four different jobs in his own office.
Reacting to this, the MPUF has demanded that the state government ensures that a fully-fledged BDO is posted at Saipung C&RD Block as the absence of this official is affecting work in Wapung C&RD Block.
Blah also informed that as per the findings of the MPUF, the employees of the Block are always present for duty. He said that Marwein has explained the inability to meet them by saying that maybe people have come when the block officials were out on duty.
