‘SBI should accept letters written in Khasi’

HP NEWS SERVICE
Khliehriat, Nov 7: Jaintia National Council (JNC) Khliehriat Circle has demanded that the State Bank of India (SBI) accepts letters written by its customers in the Khasi language.
“With the SBI Khliehriat branch not accepting letters written in Khasi is causing a lot of problems to the people, especially those from the rural areas who cannot speak English and as such cannot complete their work in the bank,” JNC Khliehriat Circle general secretary, Miki Talang said today.
Talang also said that the absence of local employees in this bank branch is another problem that is being faced as customers who cannot speak English or Hindi are left in the lurch.
As such, the JNC has requested the branch manager to ensure that at least a few local employees are posted in this branch.
The JNC has also expressed its concern over the absence of an ATM of the SBI in Khliehriat and has urged the bank to ensure that this is addressed immediately.
