Shillong, Aug 20: Additional Chief Secretary Rebecca V. Suchiang on Tuesday announced that another two border haats, Bholaganj and Ryngku both in East Khasi Hills District will be made functional in September.
The Additional Chief Secretary was speaking at the inauguration of the deputy commissioners and district magistrates meeting for Cluster – 9 between bordering districts of India (Meghalaya) and Bangladesh held at Shillong on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned that at present, two border haats are operational along the India – Bangladesh border, Kalaichar in West Garo Hills and Balat in East Khasi Hills districts.
“Another border haat in Nolikata, East Khasi Hills district will be made functional by December this year,” Suchiang informed.
She informed that during the last meeting for Cluster – 9 between bordering districts of India (Meghalaya) and Bangladesh held in Mynmensingh district of Bangladesh in 2015, there were suggestions for setting up border haats in Huroi, East Jaiñtia Hills and Dalu in West Garo Hills.
“Two Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) will be set up at strategic locations in Shella, East Khasi Hills and Borsora in South West Khasi Hills,” the Additional Chief Secretary said.
Meanwhile, Suchiang also informed that there should be a standard operating procedure between both India and Bangladesh to repatriate persons who have served jail terms in both the countries.
“This is to alleviate the problem of the common man who has served his jail sentence,” she said.
